What me do you see behind the mask? 2024 Halifax, Nova Scotia Halifax Central Library & Wonderneath With a Grant from Arts Nova Scotia and support from Spencer House and ISANS (Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia), this collaboration programme with artist Joy Pennick offered two, six week community mask making workshops to two distinct populations: independent seniors and newcomers. The ‘What Me do You See Behind the Mask’ programme acknowledged that we all construct a public face or mask but often keep our inner identity safely hidden from view. In this pilot project participants investigated their outside & inside identity by creating a self-portrait mask. In this communal journey of self-exploration, reflecting on personal history and identity, community connections were made. Fostering feelings of belonging.
